Field Hockey takes out Hopkins, 10-4

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Three goals each from sophomore defender Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and freshman midfielder Amber Steigerwalt (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) paced Ursinus (7-2, 5-1 Centennial) to a 10-4 win over Johns Hopkins (5-5, 3-2 Centennial) on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference field hockey play.

Kennan and Steigerwalt each scored a goal in the first half, then both of them scored twice in the second stanza.

Sophomore forward Devin Brakel (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro South) scored twice while adding an assist as Ursinus owned a 42-13 advantage on shots.

Keenan scored the first goal of the game at 8:44, followed by Brakel scoring on the first of two Steigerwalt assists at 13:57 and then quickly off of a restart at 14:13 for a 3-0 lead.

Hopkins got on the board at 24:16 when Alex Lantiere scored to make it 3-1.

Steigerwalt scored on a Keenan assist at 29:09, followed by a goal from sophomore forward Samantha Macchio (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) at 33:12 for a 5-1 lead. Brakel assisted on the goal.

Off of a corner at the end of the first half, Keenan scored to make it 6-1 with junior defender Nora Kornfeld (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) and sophomore midfielder Kelsey Reed (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) assisting.

In the second half, Keenan scored 3:14 in for a 7-1 lead. Reed had the assist.

Kiana Duncan scored for Hopkins at 40:51 as her shot hit the top of the cage and bounced right back down crossing the line.

Macchio scored at 43:58 on an assist from sophomore midfielder Stephanie Cooper (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West), followed by a goal from Steigerwalt assisted by senior defender Jenna Stover (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) at
47:04.

Johns Hopkins cut the lead to 9-4 when Lantiere scored her second of  the game at 50:58 and Elena Gresick scored at 66:55.

Steigerwalt scored her third and final goal at 69:30.

In goal, sophomore Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) made four saves while Hopkins got 15 saves from Zoey Atabek.
