COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Ursinus opens its 2013 season by taking on the two-time defending Freedom Conference champions in Misericordia. The match, the opener for both squads, had the feeling of a title tilt. In the end, the Cougars (1-0) were able to get a goal in 85th minute to take a 2-1 win over the Bears (0-1) at Patterson Field.

Scoreless through the first 45, both teams had chances to get on the board but outstanding goalie play by both teams kept the teams off the board.

It wasn't until the 56th minute when Misericordia's T.J. Schaefer, fouled in the box, converted a penalty kick that gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

Ursinus came back four minutes later when Ursinus sophomore midfielder Dean DerSimonian (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) scored on a feed from freshman midfielder Ryan Molyneaux (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) to tie the match at 1-all.

DerSimonian's shot, from about ten-yards out, curved toward the bottom right of the goal past Misericordia goalkeeper Barry Fitzgerald.

With 4:57 left in the contest, Parker McArdle was able get one past Ursinus junior goalkeeper Ryan Murphy (Sewell, N.J./Paul VI) in the lower left hand corner for the game-winner.

Murphy finished with five saves on the day but also made several great plays in traffic to foil scoring chances.

Ursinus travels to Widener on Wednesday to take on the Pride.
