COLLEGEVILLE, Pa – One year removed from their upset over #10 Franklin & Marshall, the Ursinus men's soccer team almost pulled off the upset over #8 F&M but ultimately coming up short 2-1, Tuesday evening at Patterson Field.
Ursinus drops to 3-6-1 for the season and still winless( 0-3) in the Centennial Conference.
Opening the first half of the match the Bears took control, on a corner placed into the box and deflected by Ryan Molyneaux right to senior defender Chase Crawford for the goal. Ursinus taking a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of the match.
The next opportunity for Ursinus came off of a defensive miscue by the Diplomats defender, stolen by Ryan Butler on a breakaway but the shot grazed the outside of the post. The Diplomat's holding on to a 1-0 lead going into the half.
In the second half the Diplomats turned up the pressure and finally punched in a goal from a long ball that deflected off the Ursinus defender right in front of F&M midfielder Devon Malfitano, tying the game 1-1 in the 50th minute.
Finally the game was sealed on a penalty kick from Sam Lane fooling the keeper for the winning goal in the 58th minute.
The Bears will look to rebound Friday at Swarthmore.
