Women's Basketball Locks Down Bryn Mawr in 73-35 Win

Box Score

Bryn Mawr, Pa - The Ursinus College women's basketball team (3-3, 2-1 CC) bounced back on Tuesday night, defeating Bryn Mawr, 73-35. The Bears played lockdown defense throughout the night, holding the Owls to just 29.8% shooting from the floor. Ursinus' 35 points allowed are the fewest it's given up since the first meeting against Bryn Mawr last season.

Gabby Downs found her range early for the Bears. The sophomore hit a jumper out of the gates and then followed it up with a three to put Ursinus up 8-2 in the first quarter. The sophomore continued her big opening frame sinking another jumper to put Ursinus up 12-6 after the Owls had brought the deficit back to four. Behind seven first-quarter points from Downs, Ursinus took an 18-10 lead headed into the second.

The Bears continued their momentum from the opening frame. A lay-up from Erin Devine put the Bears up by double-digits, 20-10, before they went on a 17-2 run going into the half. Back-to-back lay-ins from Lydia Konstanzer gave Ursinus a commanding 29-15 lead and then a Devine trey doubled-up the Owls, 32-15. Konstanzer, Downs, and Devine closed out the half with buckets of their own as Ursinus led 38-15 after two.

The Owls scored five straight coming out of the half, but Maya Kornfeld stopped the early run with a driving layup to the basket. Ursinus shot  25% in the third quarter but took a 47-25 lead headed into the final frame.

The Bears offense got back on track in the game's final 10-minutes. Margrett Brown made back-to-back jumpers out of the break to put Ursinus up 51-25. A 10-0 run from the Bears extended their lead to 30 as  Elizabeth Burke, Francesca Bogiatzis, and Alyssa Martin got in on the action. Emma Diaz capped off a 12-3 run to close the game with a three-pointer as the Bears came out with a 73-35 win.

Ursinus had  13 different players score baskets on Tuesday with no players hitting double-digits. Devine and Downs led the way with nine. The Bears are back in action next Wednesday against Swarthmore.
