Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 5 Johns Hopkins Edges Men's Soccer

BALTIMORE, MD. - A Hopkins goal in the 82nd minute proved to be the deciding factor as the Ursinus College men's soccer team fell to the No. 5 Blue Jays 2-0, in a tightly contested Centennial Conference matchup on Saturday evening.

Johns Hopkins advances to 11-0-3 as their unbeaten season rolls on, while the Bears fell to 3–8-2 for the overall.

After upsetting the Blue Jays last season, Johns Hopkins controlled the pace of play for much of the contest to take down the Bears. The Blue Jays showcased quick and precise passes, leaving the Bears struggling to get any sort of possession time. Despite the Blue Jays dominating possession time, the Bears defense stood tall holding them scoreless throughout the first half. In the beginning of the second-half, Junior Tommy Mollis opened the action with a shot on goal in the 46th minute, however, that shot would be saved by Penn State transfer Alex Morgret. Hopkins would later break the seal with a beautiful strike off the foot of sophomore defender Diego Elias. Hopkins continued to demonstrate poise and precision in the midfield, as they continued testing the Bears' midfield and defense.

Ursinus struggled to maintain momentum, as the midfield play by Hopkins' Ian and Axel Whammond minimized many Ursinus opportunities to gain possessions. Hopkins added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute with a doorstep dagger off the foot of graduate student Andres Chacone. Despite Ursinus' struggles, junior keeper Kirk Ransome would shine for the Bears as he would finish with 8 saves on 22 shots. The Bears would also see strong play from junior backs Harrison Lorenc, and Nick Balbierer, who worked to keep Ursinus in the game. The match would finish with a score of 2-0, as Hopkins took down the Bears in Baltimore. The Blue Jays also pick up their tenth clean sheet of the year, as they've only let up three goals in 14 games.

Hopkins would finish the game with 22 shots, while Ursinus just managed to get 2. Hopkins has proven to be a strong second-half team this season, as the Jays scored 13 out of their 17 goals this season in the second half.

The Bears return to action on October 19th as they take on Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference matchup at 7:30pm.
