COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Field Hockey team celebrated senior day and homecoming Saturday with a 4-1 triumph over McDaniel in Centennial Conference action at Snell Alumnae Field.
With the win, the Bears improved to 7-8 overall while earning a pivotal Centennial Conference win to go to 4-4 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Green Terror fell to 5-9 overall and 1-7 in Centennial action on the season.
The Bears went on the offensive early by putting up five shots in the first 13 minutes of the game while limiting the Green Terror to just one shot on goal during that span. Ursinus was awarded a penalty stroke for *reason* in the 13th minute and first-year
Lauren Breisch buried her shot attempt for the second-straight contest to put the Bears up 1-0. Senior
Jordan Moore extended the Bears lead to 2-0 with 4:46 left in the second quarter after collecting her own rebound attempt and lifting the ball over the Green Terror goalkeeper.
Ursinus made it a 3-0 game in the 40th minute of action after sophomore
Amanda Groeling scored her second goal of the season. Moore had a shot from a penalty corner initially saved but senior
Addie Plummer collected the long rebound at the top of the circle and fed it over to classmate
Lauren Weaver. Weaver then fed Groeling in front of the goal and she sent it over top of the McDaniel goalkeeper. Ursinus continued to press but it was McDaniel that finally broke through in the 43rd minute on a chance from a penalty corner and cut the deficit to 3-1. The goal set off a stretch where the Green Terror maintained possession in the Bears side and drew five penalty corners in the final minute of the third quarter. Fortunately for the Bears, they were able to stave off the pressure and keep the score at 3-1 headed into the fourth.
Moore notched her second goal of the game and her sixth goal in four games in the 53rd minute to put the Bears up 4-1 after scoring off a one-timer from a penalty corner. Her goal turned out to be final shot of the entire game between both teams to lock up the win for the Bears.
Ursinus held a 25-17 edge in total shots and a 16-7 edge in shots on goal. McDaniel held a 15-12 advantage in penalty corners as well behind drawing 10 in the third quarter. Bears senior goalkeeper
Jordan Ulsh made seven saves to earn the win in the full time while Green Terror goalkeeper Mikayla Smith made 11 saves during the full action.
The Bears return to action on Wednesday, October 26th as they will travel to Haverford for a pivotal Centennial Conference matchup at 7 p.m.
