Men's Tennis Closes Fall with Sweep of York and Marymount

COLLEGEVILLE, PA. – The Ursinus College men's tennis team closed out their fall season with a perfect 3-0 record after defeating York College (7-2) and Marymount University (5-4) on Saturday afternoon.

Marymount came into the match winning 13 consecutive matches dating back to last spring. As freshman Andrei Bogan continued to impress improving to a perfect 6-0 record this season, winning his first three singles and double matches of the fall. 
 
Ursinus vs York (7-2)

Ursinus jumped on the Spartans right from the start as they swept the doubles matches to take the initial 3-0 lead. The No. 1 doubles team of juniors Will Oberholtzer and Darby Rogers defeated Tej Laliwala and Evan Stehman 8-1. Noah Mandel and Ethan Yu followed with an 8-3 triumph of their own over Jack Leinbach and Ben Dorsey at the No. 2 spot. Freshman Andrei Bogdan and Hunter Murray completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Hayden Musser and Jason Lutz at No. 3 doubles.

The Bears carried the momentum over into the singles matches winning four of the six matches. Oberholtzer earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Laliwala at No. 1 singles, while Rogers took down Stehman 6-1, 6-1 at number three singles. Andrei Bogdan registered a 6-0, 6-0 triumph of Grant Haffner at No. 5 singles and Ethan Yu won by opponent retirement at No. 2 singles.

Ursinus vs Marymount (5-4)

Ursinus used the momentum from their match against York and carried it into the doubles matches winning two of three matches. The No. 2 doubles team of Bogdan and Yu defeated Nathaniel Tesfaye and Dean Cole by a score of 8-1. Obeholtzer and Rogers continued their great play at No. 1 doubles defeating Dorian Guiot and Seb Dijkema 8-6. Murray and Storm Snape fell in third spot to Lwazi Rennert and Nicolas Stromberg by a score of 8-1.

Bogdan opened for the Bears at the No. 4 singles spot defeating Cole 6-0, 6-0, while Rogers fell at the number three spot 7-5, 6-0. Oberholtzer fell at the number one spot by a score of 6-2, 6-3 but Yu bounced back for Ursinus at the number two spot with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Dijkema. Ursinus locked up the match at No. 5 singles as Murray took care of business with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Tesfaye. In the final match, Snape fell to Marymount's Rennert 6-0, 7-5.

The Bears close out their 2022 season with a perfect 3-0 record and will return to action in the spring with a trip to Orlando, Florida for a match against Concordia College (Minn.).
