WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Ursinus women's basketball team was defeated 47-45 by McDaniel on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference play.

With the loss, the Bears drop to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Green Terror improved to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Sophomore Chinwe Irondi registered a career-high 28 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the field and hauled in 15 rebounds to complete the double-double. Junior Natalie Mehl was the other Bear to reach double-figures for scoring as she posted 11 points and five rebounds.

After two minutes of scoreless action to begin the game, the Bears rattled off seven-straight points to go up 7-3 at the 5:24-mark of the first quarter following McDaniel breaking the ice with a three-pointer. The Green Terror responded with a 12-2 run to go up 15-9 with 1:29 remaining in the first quarter and held a 15-11 advantage after the first 10 minutes. Ursinus opened the second quarter strong and took the lead back at 20-17 with 3:23 left in the first half behind a 9-2 run. Irondi was responsible for the Bears final six points of the quarter to help Ursinus hold a 24-23 lead into the break.

McDaniel hit the ground running to start the third quarter as they opened the second half with a 12-3 run to go up 35-27 at the 5:59-mark, which was their largest lead of the game. The Bears rallied to pull within two points behind an 8-2 run before the Green Terror closed the quarter out with the final two field goals and went up 41-35. Irondi scored six of the eight points in the run for the Bears, but the team was held without a point for the final 4:35 of the quarter. McDaniel stretched its lead back out to eight points at 45-37 with 4:04 left in regulation. Mehl ended the Bears field goal drought at the 3:16-mark of the fourth quarter which started an 8-0 run to tie the game at 45 with 39 seconds left. Ursinus took advantage of a pair of McDaniel free throw misses to knot the game back up following a layup from first-year Madison Smith. The Green Terror pulled back in front on its next possession with a layup which left the Bears with a chance to potentially tie or win the game. Irondi was fouled and was sent to the free throw line with three seconds left. Unfortunately for the Bears, Irondi missed both and the Green Terror hauled in the rebound to hold on for the win.

The Bears shot 39.6 percent (19-of-48) from the field and went just 2-of-12 from three-point range. Ursinus struggled at the free throw line going just 5-of-11 and held a 37-32 edge in rebounds. Meanwhile, the Green Terror went 20-of-53 (37.7%) from the field and just 3-of-10 (30%) from beyond the arc. McDaniel also struggled from the charity stripe by going just 4-of-10 but scored 18 points off 17 Bears turnovers.

Elaina Beckett and Mallory Conory were responsible for 37 of the Green Terror's 47 points as Beckett completed a double-double with her 21 points and 10 rebounds.
