COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – In their first dual match of the fall, the Ursinus women's tennis team recorded an 8-1 win over Immaculata in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at the Ace Bailey Tennis Courts.
It was the first match for the Bears back on their home courts since fall of 2021 after the courts were under renovation during the spring.
Ursinus edged the Mighty Macs in the doubles matches by winning two of three to gain the early upper hand into singles play. Sophomores
Allie Armour and
Shannon Stewart opened the match by defeating the duo of Annamarie Degnan and Pamela Kontaras 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Junior
Claire Burke and senior
Ava Compagnoni took down Katie Gardner and Delaney Brown 8-4 at No. 2 doubles before first-years
Fiona Finnerty and
Bella Vassalluzzo were edged 8-6 by Autumn Barnard and Jenna Muttik at the third spot.
Ursinus took care of business in singles play as Armour impressed with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Degnan at No. 1 singles to put the Bears up 3-1 in the match. Stewart added to the Bears lead by winning 6-2, 6-2 over Brown and Finnerty locked up the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Gardner at number five singles. Compagnoni registered a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Muttik at number four singles while Burke defeated Kontaras 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. Vassalluzzo closed the match out with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Barnard.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, October 8th as they will close out the fall portion of their season with a home doubleheader against Marymount at 10 a.m. and York at 3 p.m.
