KEUKA PARK, NY. – The Ursinus College women's volleyball team wrapped up their weekend trip to New York with a doubleheader sweep of Keuka College and Marywood University. With the win, the Bears improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Bears were led by sophomore
Caroline Sherman who totaled 19 kills, while senior
Katie Cressman added 18 kills throughout the day. Sophomore
Rachel Bernard had a fantastic afternoon earning double-digit assists in both games. She totaled 15 assists and three digs in game one while adding a season-high 23 assists and a kill in game two.
Ursinus 3, Keuka 0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-22)
The Bears had little trouble on Saturday afternoon sweeping past Keuka College in straight sets. Ursinus held a hitting percentage of .293 and notched eight aces in game one. With the Wolves leading 10-7 in the first set, Ursinus regained the lead after rattling off four straight points behind back-to-back kills from Sherman and
Noelle Smits.
After a Keuka timeout, the Bears followed with a 7-0 run and controlled an 18-10 lead before another Wolves timeout. Ursinus capitalized on errors from Keuka and kills from Cressman, Reena Robison, and
Haley Spotts clinched the first set 25-15.
The Bears carried the momentum into the second set jumping out to an early 7-0 lead. Bernard earned three aces while kills from Sherman and Smits led to a Wolves timeout. After the timeout, Keuka went on a 7-2 run to make the score 9-7 Bears. Ursinus netted the next four points after Spotts and Cressman each earned a kill and a service ace from
Luca Walborn made the score 13-7. Spotts led a 6-2 Ursinus run collecting three more kills with each being assisted by first-year
Erin Dychdala. The Bears closed out the set after an ace from Smits and a kill from Spotts made the score 25-15.
In the third set, Ursinus jumped out to an early 5-3 lead after Cressman, Robinson, and Spotts each picked up a kill. The Bears followed up with a 7-1 run after back-to-back service aces from Cressman and three straight errors from the Wolves. With the score 12-4, Keuka used a 7-1 run to get back in the game and make the score 13-11 Bears. Ursinus rattled off four straight points thanks to back-to-back kills from Smits and four assists from Bernard. Keuka answered with a 6-1 run after Ava Hubbard and Megan McCann each scored making the score 22-20. The Bears capitalized on two Wolves errors and closed out the match with a kill from Sherman for a 25-22 set and match victory.
Bernard (15) and Dychdala (11) each recorded double-digit assists while sophomore
Emma Illovsky earned a game-high 14 digs. On the defensive side the Bears were led by Smits, Spotts, and Dychdala who each picked up two blocks.
Ursinus 3, Marywood 0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-16)
The Bears carried their momentum into their second match of the day as they swept Marywood in straight sets behind hitting .281 and notching 11 aces.

Emma Illovsky chipped in 10 digs.
The Bears jumped out to an early 10-2 lead after both Cressman, and first-year
Noelle Smits picked up two kills. After three straight points from the Pacers, the Bears rallied for six straight points behind three aces for Smits and led 16-5. Later in the set, after a 5-0 run for Marywood and a kill from Emily O'Brien tied the set at 22 apiece. The Bears battled back and closed out the set with back-to-back kills from Cressman and
Caroline Sherman.
The second set was a back-and-forth battle from both teams as Ursinus led 12-10 halfway through and stretched their lead to four after kills from Bernard and Spotts. Marywood made the score 15-13 after a Bears error and a kill from Mikayla Meek brought their deficit to two. Ursinus stretched their lead to eight after a 7-1 run made the score 22-14. The Bears closed out the set after Bernard found first-year
Reena Robinson for her first kill of the set.
In the third set, the Bears used three straight aces from Robinson to jump out to an early 11-3 lead. Marywood used an 8-3 run to cut deficit to just three after capitalizing on three errors from Ursinus. Two kills from Robinson and an ace from Sherman put the Bears in front 18-11. Ursinus closed out the match on a 6-1 run as
Haley Spotts picked up three kills.
Smits and Robinson each finished with four aces while
Luca Walborn added 11 assists, and
Megan Aube was credited with three digs.
The Bears will return to action for their home opener on Tuesday, September 6
th as they host Neumann at 7pm inside Helfferich Hall.
