COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – A strong second half, the Ursinus men's basketball team cruised to an 81-62 victory over McDaniel on Saturday afternoon at Helfferich Hall in Centennial Conference action.
With the win, the Bears improved to 11-6 overall and 6-4 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Green Terror dropped to 7-8 overall and 4-6 in conference play.

Ryan Hughes paced the game with 20 points behind a sharp 6-of-8 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range. Hughes eclipsed the 1,500-career point mark in the process and moved into fifth all time in scoring for Ursinus Men's Basketball history. He also added four rebounds and a team-high four assists in the win. Junior
Trevor Wall recorded 14 points on a solid 7-of-9 from the field and tallied three rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Senior
Kyle Maurer matched Wall with 14 points behind going 4-of-8 from deep and grabbed three rebounds, while sophomore
Cole Grubbs posted 11 points, six rebounds, and three blocks.
After McDaniel took an early 5-2 lead in the opening minutes, the Bears powered ahead with nine-straight points to go up 11-5 at the 14:15-mark of the first half. The burst got Ursinus red-hot from the field as they extended their advantage to 23-8, completing a 21-3 run at the 10:52-mark. McDaniel used a 14-3 run to cut the Bears lead down to 26-22 at the 5:13-mark of the first half, but the Bears countered with a 7-2 stretch to go back up nine at 33-24. Ursinus maintained its advantage for the final three minutes and held a 39-33 edge at the break.
It was McDaniel that came out strong to open the second half as they took their first lead of the game since the opening two minutes of the contest at 45-44 with 15:48 left in regulation. However, the lead was short-lived as the Bears overpowered the Green Terror with a 26-4 run over the span of 8:23 to go up 70-49. The massive run proved to be the difference in the game as Ursinus did not let its lead go under 14 points for the remainder of the contest.
The Bears shot a scorching hot 62 percent from the field (31-of-50) after going 16-of-23 (69.6%) in the first half. Ursinus shot an even 50 percent (9-of-18) from three-point range and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free throw line. Ursinus also held a slight 25-24 edge in rebounds as well. Meanwhile, the Green Terror 48.1 percent (25-of-52) from the field and 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from beyond the arc. McDaniel went 6-of-8 from the free throw line and got 22 points from its bench.
Jonas Sujeta paced the Green Terror with 16 points and three rebounds while Jeong Hwang added 11 points after going 4-of-7 from the field.
Ursinus returns to action on Thursday, January 26
th as they will travel to face Franklin & Marshall for an 8:00 p.m. contest.
