Gymnastics Opens Home Slate against Brockport and Ithaca

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.  -  The Ursinus Gymnastics team competed against a pair of NCGA East Regional opponents on Sunday afternoon in their first home meet of the 2023 season at Helfferich Hall.

The Bears faced against two squads that qualified for the NCGA National Championship last season in Brockport and Ithaca. Ursinus finished third among the three teams in the tri-meet with a score of 184.675. The Bears rounded out their total with scores of 47.375 on the vault, 47.050 on the floor exercise, 45.400 on the uneven bars, and 44.850 on the balance beam. Brockport won the meet behind their total of 188.400 while the Bombers followed in second with their score of 187.300.

On the floor, senior Kasey Ricci and first-year Sidney Schreiber got Helfferich Hall energized with strong routines that led to each scoring a 9.750. The duo tied for third overall in the event and Ricci blitzed her old personal best on the floor by .300. Schreiber topped her collegiate debut mark of 9.550 at Cortland and has scored over a 9.5 in the event for both meets this season.

Ursinus matched their team total on the vault from last week at Cortland in another strong showing on the event. Senior Alex Panetta starred for the Bears by leading the team with her score of 9.525 which was just short of topping her career best of 9.550 and finished sixth overall. Sophomore Erin Stubbs and Schreiber matched each other with scores of 9.500 and tied for eighth overall in the field. Senior Taylor Cusick recorded a score of 9.450 and junior Ashley Cromer followed with her total of 9.400.

The Bears improved on the bars by a near full point from Cortland as Panetta continued her strong day by once again leading the team among the individual scores with her season best of 9.300. She placed sixth overall while sophomore Megan Matteucci and first-year Brianna Duffy tied for eighth overall after posting a score of 9.100.

Senior Alyssa DeLorme paced Ursinus on the beam with her season best total of 9.400 and finished seventh overall among the three teams.

Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, January 28th as they will travel down to West Chester to compete against the Golden Rams and Cortland at 1:00 p.m.
