COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Soccer team rolled past Delaware Valley by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday night at Patterson Field in non-conference action.
With the win, the Bears improved to 8-3-1 overall and continued their perfect mark in non-conference matches this season. Meanwhile the Aggies of the MAC Freedom fell to 3-7-2 overall.
The Bears got to work early with three shots in the first 10 minutes with one going on the Aggies net. Junior
Joshua Coster got Ursinus on the board in the 20th minute when he took a rip from 20 yards out in the center, making it 1-0. The Aggies nearly leveled the scoring in the 30th minute when a shot was sent off the crossbar after the Bears turned it over in the own end.
Ursinus added to its lead just three minutes into the second half when senior
Tommy Mollis scored on a penalty kick goal. Mollis was tackled in the box by an Aggies defender after getting space. Coster sent a shot just wide right of the net in the 54th minute that almost extended the Bears lead further. First-year
Declan Curran had two decent looks on the Aggies net in the second half. The first came in 72nd minute after senior
Nick Balbierer drove from end-to-end with possession through multiple Delaware Valley defenders, but had his low shot saved. The second followed nine minutes later when a shot from the middle was caught by the Aggies goalkeeper.
The Bears held a 13-6 shot advantage for the contest and a slight 5-3 edge in shots on goal. Ursinus had just one corner kick opportunity compared to the Aggies with three. First-year goalkeeper
Josiah Moore earned his second-straight shutout after making three saves during the full 90 minutes. Liam Morris suffered the loss for Delaware Valley after making three saves while allowing two goals during the full time.
Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, October 14th as they will host Muhlenberg at 8:00 p.m. in Centennial Conference action.
