GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's soccer team found the equalizer in the 81
st minute, but eventually fell to Gettysburg College, 2-1 on Saturday evening from Clark Field.
With the loss, the Bears finish the season with an 8-7-2 overall record and a 1-7-1 mark within the Centennial Conference. Meanwhile, the Bullets improved to 5-8-4 overall and 2-4-3 in conference action.
Gettysburg earned the first two shots of the match during the first minute with the Bears turning away each opportunity, including first-year
Josiah Moore tallying a save. During the seventh minute after an Ursinus foul just outside the box, the Bullets capitalized on a cross into the box to grab an early 1-0 advantage. On the near side, Gettysburg's Lucas DiGiacomo sent a low line drive cross in front of the goal, finding the head of Zion Williams for the early goal. Williams' header just snuck past Moore towards the top right corner for his first goal of the season. Ursinus quickly responded with two separate scoring chances within two minutes, but the Bullets defense denied each opportunity. At the 9:47-mark, senior
Tommy Mollis played a corner kick into the box, his pass nearly found the head of sophomore
Colin Deal, but Gettysburg's netminder corralled the shot for a save. Each team created multiple chances throughout the remainder of the first half, but each defense and goalkeeper stood tall as Ursinus trailed 1-0 at the halftime break.
During the beginning of the second half, Moore and the Bears continued to play well denying three consecutive chances by the Bullets offense. The Bears found the equalizer during the 81
st minute as Mollis assisted on a goal by sophomore
Julian Faust to tie the game at one a piece. After a foul was issued on Gettysburg, about 15-yards outside the box, Mollis quickly sent a pass out wide to Faust flanking the Bullets wall. Faust's one-timer shot froze the Bullets defense and found the far post for his eighth goal of the season. On the ensuing Bullets possession, they nearly found the back of the net but a diving save from Moore in goal keep the game tied at 1-1. Moments later with 8:22 to play, Gettysburg's Aidan Gaynor sent a cross into the box finding Aidan Muller whose header snuck past the Bears defense and into the back of the net for the 2-1 advantage. The Bears created two more scoring chances from Faust and senior
Harry Lorenc, but couldn't find the equalizer falling 2-1.
Gettysburg held a 17-8 advantage in shots and a 9-4 edge in shots on goal. Gettysburg's Kevin Muhic earned the victory in goal behind three saves, while first-year
Josiah Moore suffered the loss recording a career-high seven saves over 90 minutes of action.
