GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Three second half goals proved to be the difference as the Ursinus College women's soccer team fell to Gettysburg College, 3-1, on Saturday evening from Clark Field.
With the loss, Ursinus wraps up their 2023 season with a 5-9-3 overall record and a 1-7-2 mark in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Bullets improved to 8-6-2 on the season and 6-3-1 in conference play.
Gettysburg controlled the pace of play early on firing three shots within the first eight minutes of the contest with each opportunity missing high of the goal. The Bears responded with a shot of their own at the 9:10-mark when sophomore
Alicia Page sent a shot towards the bottom right of the goal, but her scoring opportunity was saved by the Bullets netminder. Much of the first half consisted of the battle of the midfielders as each team struggled to create scoring chances within the offensive zone. The Bullets found the opening goal of the second half during the 64
th minute, as a loose ball found Elise Fox and her shot towards the far post gave Gettysburg a 1-0 advantage. Just two minutes later, Gettysburg increased their lead to two when a corner kick from Elodie Reeves found the head of Jordan Weinberg for her second goal of the season. Paige Flaugh intercepted a Bullets pass and sent a pass into the box finding senior
Alex Chalmers. With space, Chalmers fired a one-timer shot that deflected off the goalkeeper and into the back of the net to make the final score, 3-1.
The Bullets held a 11-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-2 edge in corner kick opportunities. Gettysburg's Alex Jurow earned the victory in goal behind two saves, while Nau suffered the loss collecting eight saves in 90 minutes of action.
