COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Soccer team was defeated 5-0 by Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action at Patterson Field.
The Diplomats put Bears senior goalkeeper
Maddie Nau to the test early as she came up with five saves in the first 18 minutes to keep the game scoreless. Sophomore
Adriana Careless put the Bears first shot on the board in the 16th minute on a kick that just went wide of the net. Nau continued to valiantly keep the game scoreless with three more saves over the next 10 minutes, but the Diplomats finally broke through in 31st minute on a shot that went from near the right corner to the left side of the net. F&M added one more in the 42nd minute to go up 2-0 into the half after a header set up for a shot in the middle of the box. Senior
Alex Chalmers had a decent look for the Bears in the 43rd minute that was saved.
F&M extended their lead to 3-0 in the 51st minute before adding another off a rebound in the 10 minutes later. Senior
Liv Morrow had the Bears best look on the net in the 57th minute when she shot one from the top of the box that was saved. The Diplomats capped the scoring with a fifth and final goal in the 87th minute.
The Diplomats held a sizable 30-8 advantage in total shots and 22-2 edge in shots on goal. F&M also held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Despite the loss, Nau made a career-high 17 saves for the Bears which was the most in a game for the team in over 20+ years. Lucile Fleming earned the win for the Diplomats after making two saves in the full 90 minutes. Lillian Williams and Bri Skidmore scored two goals apiece for the Diplomats.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, October 7th as they will host Swarthmore in Centennial Conference action at 3:00 p.m.
