Volleyball Sweeps Bryn Mawr in Straight-Sets

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Volleyball team cruised to a win in straight sets over Bryn Mawr (25-15, 25-17, 25-16) on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action.
 
 
With the win the Bears improved to 10-15 overall and will finish 2-8 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Owls fell to 3-16 overall and 0-9 in conference play.
 
 
Junior Caroline Sherman led the Bears with a match-high 10 kills while posting six aces and four digs as well. Senior Haley Spotts posted seven kills on 13 attacks for a sizzling .463 hitting percentage and recorded three blocks while sophomore Mel Eglinton matched her with seven kills. Junior Rachel Bernard registered 16 assists to pace the Ursinus offense.
 
 
The teams traded short runs to start in the first set until the Bears created some breathing room by taking five of the next six points to go up 10-6. Ursinus put together the decisive run of the set by winning 11 of 12 points after leading 10-8 to take a commanding 21-9 advantage. The Bears built a 24-11 advantage and Spotts closed out the set with a kill after the Owls won four-straight points.
 
 
 
Ursinus surged ahead after the Owls took an initial 3-1 lead in the second set by winning five of the next six points to go up 6-4. Bryn Mawr tied the set at seven before the Bears won six-straight points to go up 13-7. The Owls rallied by taking six of the next seven points to cut the Bears lead to 14-13 until Ursinus ultimately pulled away by winning eight of the next 10 points to go up 22-15. The Owls won the next two points to only have the Bears take the next three to go up 2-0 in the match.
 
 
 
The Bears never trailed in the third set but battled with the Owls early as there were three ties in the opening points. With the score tied at five, Ursinus made a statement run by winning eight-straight points to go up 13-5 behind four of the points being aces. Bryn Mawr worked their way back to just trail by five at 15-10 behind winning five of the next seven points but were answered by Ursinus winning five of the next six to go up 20-11. The Bears closed out the set and match by taking four of the last six points after holding a 21-14 lead.
 
 
Ursinus will close out their season by hosting a second non-league tri-match on Saturday, November 4th. The Bears will start by taking on King's at 12:00 p.m. before finishing their season with Gwynedd Mercy at 4:00 p.m.
