Day One Recap
SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming closed out their 2023 fall schedule with a tri-meet against No.19 Swarthmore College and Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon.
Unfortunately, Ursinus was upended by both opposing squads falling 263-65 to Swarthmore and 241-87 to Salisbury. With the defeat, Ursinus sits at 5-3 on the season and 3-2 in Centennial Conference action.
The Bears opened with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of
Francesco D'Avella,
Jake Hennegan,
Jack Giuliana, and
Stephen Lyons combined for a time of 1:35.44.
Junior
Jonah Kasznay paced the Bears lineup earning second place finishes in the 400-yard IM (4:09.68) and 1650-yard freestyle event with a time of 16:17.54. Ursinus was represented well in the 100-yard butterfly as the trio of Giuliana (7
th, 52.13), junior
Jan Perez-Bonilla (12
th, 52.64), and Lyons (14
th, 52.99) each finished within the top 15 of the event.
During the 200-yard freestyle, junior
Dylan Schreffler collected an eighth place with a time of 1:46.60, while sophomore
David McCauley took ninth place touching the wall at 1:46.74. The Bears again saw two athletes finish side-by-side in the 100-yard breaststroke as D'Avella (58.83) and Hennegan (59.86) placed eighth and ninth, respectively.
Ursinus closed out the morning session with a third-place time of 7:04.40 in the 800-yard freestyle relay, behind the quartet of junior
Jake Klucinec, Schreffler, McCauley, and Kasznay. To open the evening session, McCauley placed eighth in the 1650-yard freestyle turning in a time of 17:11.87. Klucinec (17:29.83), first-years
Daniel Salimov (17:48.82) and
Adam Denn (18:28.40) placed 12
th, 13
th, and 15th respectively.
During the 100-yard freestyle, Lyons (47.20) turned in the fastest time for Ursinus behind a sixth-place finish, while Schreffler placed ninth with a time of 47.34. The Bears closed out the meet with a fourth-place time in the 400-yard freestyle as the quartet of Lyons, Kasznay, Schreffler, and McCauley combined for a time of 3:09.32.
The Bears will have some time off before returning to action on Friday, January 19
th with a home dual meet against Cabrini University at 4 p.m.
