PHILADELPHIA – The Ursinus Gymnastics team returned to a familiar competition spot in the Palestra as they competed in the University of Pennsylvania's Quad Meet on Sunday afternoon. The Bears also performed against West Chester and Towson in the meet.
The Bears posted a total team score of 185.025 on the afternoon behind another staggering performance on the floor. Ursinus recorded a 48.250 overall score on the floor which was both their highest score for the event since earning a 48.100 against Rutgers back in January 2017, and the first time they have eclipsed over a 48 since at Towson in January 2018. Ursinus recorded team totals of 46.800 on the vault, 45.600 on the uneven bars, and 44.375 on the balance beam. Towson led the team scores with a 196.450, followed by West Chester with a 193.050, and the host Quakers with a total of 193.025.
Ursinus had all six gymnasts post at least a 9.45 on the floor to continue their momentum on the event from a week ago. Senior
Alyssa DeLorme led the dynamic floor with a career-high score of 9.8 which tied for ninth overall among the four teams. Sophomore
Megan Matteucci dazzled again following a breakout showing last week at home and topped her one-week old best score by recording a 9.750. Classmate
Isabella Scarpetti did the same by topping her previous career best behind her total of 9.675 today and senior
Kasey Ricci followed with a 9.550. First-year
Sidney Schreiber and sophomore
Daria Gregory rounded out the floor scores with a 9.475 and 9.450, respectively.
Senior
Alex Panetta paced the Bears on the vault with her score of 9.525 while senior
Taylor Cusick and junior
Ashley Cromer tied for a 9.475, the second best score on the team. Matteucci recorded a 9.250 in her vault debut and Schreiber recorded a total of 9.050.
Panetta shined on the bars to continue a standout season for the event and led all Bears gymnasts with a season-high total of 9.650. It was the highest total on the bars for Panetta since recording the same score in a tri-meet with Temple and Bridgeport during the 2020 season. First-year
Brianna Duffy topped her previous career best score mark after registering a 9.225 and sophomore
Kyleigh Pierce recorded a total of 9.000.
DeLorme turned in a strong showing on the balance beam by posting a season best score of 9.525 to lead the Ursinus gymnasts. Ricci followed with a 9.500 which was over .3 points higher than her previous career best score.
The Bears return to action on Sunday, February 19th as they will travel to Ithaca for a quad meet alongside Brockport and Rhode Island College at 2:00 p.m.
