YORK, Pa. – The No. 19 Ursinus Men's Lacrosse team was unable to overcome a slow start as they were defeated by No. 10 York on Wednesday night in non-conference action.
The loss drops the Bears to 1-1 overall in the early stages of their season. Meanwhile, the Spartans improved to 1-1 after suffering a heartbreaking overtime loss to Washington & Lee in their season opener.
York came out red hot to start as they scored on their first three possessions to go up 3-0 at the 12:37-mark of the first quarter. The Spartans added one more goal to their opening run before the Bears struck back with a pair of goals from junior

Harry Sweitzer to make it 4-2 with 8:31 left in the first quarter. However, the Spartans went on another three-goal run to go up 7-2 at the 5:23-mark to take momentum back from the Bears. Senior
Erik Ojert cashed in on a man-up opportunity with 3:11 left in the first quarter, but that would be the last Ursinus goal for the rest of the first half.
The Spartans went on an 11 unanswered goal run over the span of three quarters to take a commanding 18-3 lead at the 4:46-mark of the third quarter. Senior
Tyler Neal finally ended the run at the 1:49-mark and classmate
Jeremy Calabro notched his first goal of the game as well to end the third quarter. The Bears controlled play throughout the fourth quarter and outscored the Spartans 5-2 to bring the score to its final tally of 21-10. Neal added two of the goals, Calabro tallied a second, and senior

Ryan Dever scored as well for the Bears. For Dever, it was the first goal of his collegiate career.
York held a slight 48-44 edge in shots for the contest after the Bears ripped off 20 of their shots in the fourth quarter. The Spartans held a 30-26 advantage in shots on goal, 40-30 edge in ground balls, and 19-16 advantage in faceoff wins. Bears junior goalkeeper
Jonathan Singer suffered the loss after making seven saves in three full quarters of action. Junior
Vaughn DiBattista played the final quarter for Ursinus and made two saves in the final 15 minutes. Ian Callinan earned the win for the Spartans behind making six saves in the first three quarters of action.
Neal led the Bears with a team-high four points behind three goals and one assist. Calabro scored two goals while
Erik Ojert tallied two points behind a goal and an assist. Will Harnick led York and all scorers with six points behind five goals and one assist.
The Bears return to action on Sunday, February 26th as they will host Colorado College in non-conference action at a new start time of 12:00 p.m.
