GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's basketball were unable to overcome a first quarter deficit as they fell to Gettysburg College 69-29 on Saturday afternoon from Bream Gymnasium.
With the loss, the Bears fell to 7-13 overall and 4-14 in Centennial Conference action, meanwhile the Bullets improved to 14-6 on the season and 11-4 in conference play.
Gettysburg jumped out to a commanding 13-0 lead over the first five minutes of action, until first-year
Madison Smith connected on a jump shot at the 4:45-mark. After a Bullets three-pointer, the Bears answered with a long-range shot from junior
Natalie Mehl to cut their deficit to 11 with 2:47 to play in the quarter. The Bears connected on two free throws in the final seconds of the period, but Gettysburg controlled an 18-7 lead after the first quarter.
Smith opened the second quarter for the Bears with a jump shot, but the Bullets responded with a 9-2 run to stretch their lead to 16 at the 6:03-mark. Ursinus answered with a 5-0 run over the next two minutes as junior

Makenna Foder collected a mid-range jump shot to cut their deficit to 11. The Bullets closed out the half on a 5-0 run to extend their lead to 16, holding a 32-16 lead through two quarters.
The Bullets came out of the halftime adjustments on fire, scoring 14-straight points behind a perfect six-of-six from the field. Sophomore

Katie McCusker, but a Bullets 6-2 run closed out the third stanza with Gettysburg holding a 36-point advantage. In the fourth quarter, Ursinus would continue to battle scoring four of the first six points, but the deficit proved to be too large as Gettysburg earned the conference victory.
Ursinus struggled from the field shooting 20.8% (11-of-53) while connecting on two of their eight three-pointers (25%) and finishing 62.5% (5-of-8) from the charity stripe. The Bears finished with 19 turnovers with the Bullets tallying 24 points from Bears mistakes. Gettysburg shot 50.9% (28-of-55) from the field, 43.8% (7-of-16) from three-point range, and a perfect six-of-six from the free throw line.
Mackenzie Szlosek led the Bullets with a game-high 13 points behind an efficient three-of-five from three-point range, while Cynthia Williams added 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Alayna Arnolie rounded out the three Bullets in double figures with 10 points and five assists.
The Bears will return to action on Tuesday as they host Swarthmore College for a conference matchup starting at 6pm.
