COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Gymnastics team celebrated senior day with its highest team score of the season against West Chester in dual meet action on Sunday afternoon at Helfferich Hall.
The Bears posted a team score of 187.025 which was nearly two points higher than its previous best this season. The score was made up of a 47.950 on the floor exercise that was the highest for the event since the 2018 NCGA East Regionals, a 47.325 on the vault, 46.250 on the balance beam, and 45.550 on the uneven bars. West Chester paced the meet with a total team score of 193.550 that consisted totals of 48.600 on both the beam and floor, 48.200 on the vault, and 48.150 on the bars.
Prior to the meet, Ursinus honored its five senior student-athletes:
Taylor Cusick,
Alyssa DeLorme,
Alex Panetta,
Kasey Ricci, and
Lindsey Thornton as a part of senior day ceremonies.
Ursinus turned in an outstanding showing on the floor which bested the 2018 NCGA East Regional total of 47.900. First-year
Sidney Schreiber powered the Bears with a dazzling 9.8 which finished second overall between the two squads. Schreiber built on her impressive collegiate debut season which has now seen her post at least a 9.550 in all four meets this season. Sophomore
Megan Matteucci had a career day on the floor by recording a 9.650 in her first meet competing for a score in the event since last season. Her score was nearly a full point higher than her previous best on the floor. DeLorme finished third among Bears gymnasts with score of 9.550 and was followed by Cusick and sophomore
Isabella Scarpetti with totals of 9.475.
The Bears held their own again on the vault as they posted at least a 47.3 for their fourth-straight meet. Sophomore
Erin Stubbs led the Bears gymnasts in the event for the third time this season after recording a total score of 9.6 and finished fourth overall. Panetta matched her season-high on the vault with a 9.525 and tied for sixth overall. Junior
Ashley Cromer recorded a total of 9.475 while Cusick finished with a 9.425. Scarpetti and Schreiber rounded out the Bears scores with totals of 9.3 and 9.075, respectively.
Panetta recorded a season-high 9.550 on the bars, continuing her strong start to the 2023 season, and finished fourth overall. Sophomore
Adison Tanguay showed well on the bars after recording a career best score of 9.3
Ursinus improved on the beam and Cromer, sophomore
Daria Gregory, and Thornton all tied for the Bears team lead with a score of 9.425.
Scarpetti was the lone Bear that competed in the All-Around standings after amassing a total score of 34.950.
The Bears return to action on Sunday, February 12th as they will head to the Palestra to compete in a quad meet hosted by Penn at 1:00 p.m. that will include the Golden Rams and Towson.
