COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Gymnastics team saw three gymnasts earn a trip to the NCGA National Championship Meet after the completion of the 2023 NCGA East Regionals at Helfferich Hall on Saturday afternoon.
Seniors
Alyssa DeLorme and
Alex Panetta along with junior
Ashley Cromer locked up a trip to Winona State (Minnesota) behind finishing in the top-five during one of the four events during the meet. Panetta and Cromer will compete on the vault while DeLorme earned spots on the uneven bars and floor exercise.
In the first regional meet held at Ursinus since 2015, the Bears posted a team score of 187.450 to finish sixth at the meet. Brockport won the regionals for the third-straight time with a score of 192.200 and Springfield (189.150) along with Ithaca (189.050) earned the qualifying spots for the NCGA Championships in two weeks.
After opening the meet on a bye, the Bears started their first event of the day on the bars and recorded a team score of 45.900. DeLorme posted a 9.6 on the bars to lead the team and tie for fourth overall, sealing her second-straight trip to nationals. Junior
Carly Troilo earned a 9.2 while sophomores
Megan Matteucci and
Adison Tanguay recorded scores of 9.150 and 9.100, respectively.
Senior
Lindsey Thornton finished off her Bears career by setting a career best score of 9.650 on the beam to lead the team. First-year
Sidney Schreiber recorded a 9.5 to finish second among Ursinus gymnasts on the beam and DeLorme tallied a 9.250. Cromer posted a 9.075 on the event and the Bears registered a total of 46.225 as a team.
The Bears finished with a team score of 47.350 on the floor in their third event of the day with the meet down to its last two rotations. DeLorme highlighted the Ursinus gymnasts with a strong score of 9.750 to tie for fifth overall and qualify for her second event at the national championship meet. Kasey Ricci scored a 9.575. Matteucci closed out an improved season on the floor with a 9.5.
In their final event of the day, the Bears saved their best for last by registering a 47.975 on the vault which was the highest score since their program record of 48.375 at the 2015 NCGA East Regionals. Panetta punched her first career ticket to nationals by tallying a 9.725 to finish third overall. Cromer set a new career best total of 9.650 and tied for fifth overall to join Panetta and DeLorme at Winona State in two weeks. Schreiber and sophomore
Erin Stubbs each posted a 9.575 to tie for eighth overall. Senior
Taylor Cusick completed her collegiate career with a 9.450 and DeLorme rounded out the Bears scores with a 9.325.
Cromer, DeLorme, and Panetta will advance to the NCGA National Championship Meet at Winona State on Saturday, March 25th at 2:00 p.m.
