COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Tennis team returned to the Ursinus Tennis Courts for their first dual match of the spring and bested Lebanon Valley 7-2 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Bears improved to 8-1 overall in their first match at home since October. Meanwhile, the Dutchmen fell to 6-3 overall.
Ursinus gained the early advantage into singles by taking two of the three doubles matches. The junior duo of
Ethan Yu and
Darby Rogers downed Jesse Beck and Brendan Byler at No. 2 doubles 8-2 to get Ursinus on the board first. Lebanon Valley leveled the score after senior
Noah Mandel and
Andrei Bogdan fell 8-5 to Michael Schuetz and Jacob Erb at the No 3 spot, but juniors
Lars Jespersen and
Will Oberholtzer put the Bears back in front with an 8-5 win over Jeffrey Bauer and Adam Warren at No. 1 doubles.
The Bears put the match away by winning four of the five singles contests on the day. Yu cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Brady McLucas at No. 3 singles before Oberholtzer followed by defeating Bauer 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. Jespersen delivered the winning point after besting Warren 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 position and Rogers kept his hot streak going by defeating Beck 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Rogers is now 12-0 in the Bears spring season combined from singles and doubles action. Bogdan notched the final point for Ursinus on the day with a 7-5, 6-4 triumph at No. 5 singles to move to 8-0 on the season. Mandel was trailing Schuetz 2-6, 4-5 before being forced to retire at No. 6 singles.
Ursinus returns to action on Thursday, March 23rd as they will travel to face Alvernia at 3:30 p.m.
