Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Ursinus men's tennis team was dealt a 7-2 setback to Gettysburg on Sunday afternoon in their Centennial Conference opener.
With the loss, the Bears fell to 8-2 overall and will start Centennial play 0-1. Meanwhile, the Bullets improved to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in conference action.
Gettysburg gained the early advantage into singles play after winning two of the three doubles matches on the afternoon. The No. 3 doubles team of freshman
Andrei Bogdan and sophomore
Hunter Murray dropped an 8-1 match to Matt Rau and Michael Zayneh before juniors
Darby Rogers and
Ethan Yu fell 8-4 to JP Damare and Adam Contract at the No. 2 spot. Juniors
Lars Jespersen and
Will Oberholtzer salvaged a point for the Bears in doubles by taking the No. 1 doubles match 8-5 over Michael Fellman and Alex Kagan.
Bogdan then leveled the match at two by taking down Rau 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, but the Bullets won the next five matches to lock up the win. Jespersen suffered a 6-4, 6-0 setback to Fellman at the No. 1 spot and Rogers was edged 6-3, 6-4 by Contract at No. 4 singles. Oberholtzer lost to Kagan at the No. 2 spot 6-1, 6-3 while Murray fell 6-3, 6-3 to Connor McPartland at No. 6 singles. Yu then was defeated 6-4, 6-3 by Zayneh at the No. 3 spot to conclude the day.
The Bears return to action tomorrow, March 27th as they will travel to face Alvernia in non-conference action at 3:30 p.m.
