COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Ursinus Bears women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback to No. 32 Swarthmore on Wednesday afternoon in their Centennial Conference opener.

 With the loss, the Bears fell to 8-3 overall and will start Centennial Conference action 0-1. Meanwhile, the Garnet improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

 Swarthmore won all three doubles points to take the early 3-0 lead in the match. The first-year duo of
Bella Vassalluzzo and
Grace Maccarelli were defeated 8-1 by Kathleen Shiffer and Daniela Padron-Castillo at the No. 3 spot before junior
Avery Samer and sophomore
Shannon Stewart fell 8-3 to Nathalie Williams and Crystal Xu at No. 1 doubles. Senior
Ava Compagnoni and junior
Claire Burke then dropped an 8-2 match to Lisa Messier and Anna Miller at the No. 2 position.

 In singles, first-year
Fiona Finnerty was defeated in straight-sets 6-0, 6-0 to Miller at the No. 5 spot while Vassalluzzo was downed by Lara Geib at the No. 6 position 6-1, 6-0. Compagnoni suffered a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Messier at No. 4 singles and Stewart dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Shiffer playing out of the No. 2 singles spot. Burke was defeated by Williams 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot and Samer fell 6-1, 6-1 to Padron-Castillo at No. 3 singles.

The Bears will return to action on Saturday, March 25th as they will travel to face Gettysburg at 1:00 p.m.
