ORLANDO, Fla. – The Ursinus men's tennis team earned a pair of wins on Tuesday as they continued their Florida Spring Break trip. The Bears defeated St. Francis (Ill.) 8-1 in the early afternoon before taking down King's 8-1 in the evening.
The Bears swept all three doubles matches against the Saints to gain the early 3-0 advantage. Juniors
Ethan Yu and
Darby Rogers opened the scoring by winning 8-2 Paul Wottgen and Aidan Flores at the No. 2 spot. Juniors
Lars Jespersen and
Will Oberholtzer followed by earning an 8-4 triumph over Sebastian Bahamondes and Ignacio Hernandez at No. 1 doubles while senior
Noah Mandel and freshman
Andrei Bogdan earned win by default at the No. 3 spot.
In singles, Ursinus won five of the six matches to clinch up the match. Jespersen bested Bahamondes 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 singles while Yu won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles over Wottgren. Rogers took down Flores 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 4 position and Mandel earned a 6-1, 7-5 triumph at the No. 5 spot over Hejl. Bogdan won by default at No. 6 singles and Oberholtzer suffered the lone loss of the match as Hernandez defeated him in three sets 1-6, 6-3, (10-1).
Against the Monarchs, Ursinus once again swept the doubles matches as Yu and Rogers won again at No. 2 over Aidan Temple and Patrick Pech in a dominant 8-0 fashion. Bogdan and Mandel followed suit by winning 8-0 at the No. 3 position over Brendan Turowski and Jacob Nelson while Jespersen and Oberholtzer won 8-2 at No. 1 singles over Logan Gregory and John Toussaint.
Bogdan continued his impressive start to his collegiate career by winning 6-0, 6-0 over Temple at No. 4 singles. Bogdan is 5-0 this season so far and has won all five matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Sophomore
Hunter Murray locked up the match in his spring debut at No. 5 singles with his 6-1, 6-0 win over Turowski. Junior
Storm Snape won his spring debut as well by besting Nelson 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles and Jespersen took down Gregory 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Rogers defeated Toussaint 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Mandel suffered the lone setback in singles by falling 0-6, 3-6 to Pech at the No. 3 position.
The Bears return to action on Thursday, March 9th as they will take on Northwestern (Minn.) at 7:30 a.m.
