MADISON, N.J. – The Ursinus Men's Tennis team got back in the win column by defeating Drew 5-4 in non-conference action on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Bears improved to 12-5 overall while the Rangers of the Landmark Conference dropped to 11-4.
The Rangers opened the day by winning two of the three doubles matches to take the early advantage into singles. Juniors
Lars Jespersen and
Will Oberholtzer were edged 8-6 by Avi Perera and Daryl Wong Li-Hom at No. 1 doubles. Juniors
Darby Rogers and
Ethan Yu got the Bears on the board with an 8-6 triumph at No. 2 doubles over John Dickey and Jack Polvere before senior
Noah Mandel and freshman
Andrei Bogdan were defeated by the same score at No. 3 doubles by Leo Ambrogio and Bret Schuler.
Oberholtzer opened singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Ambrogio and Rogers put the Bears in front with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Santo Carrocia at the No. 4 spot. Jespersen outlasted Li-Hom 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at the No. 1 spot and Yu clinched the match for the Bears with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Perera at No. 3 singles. Bogdan dropped a 7-5, 6-1 match to Schuler at the No. 5 spot while Mandel was defeated 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 6 position.
The Bears return to action on Tuesday, April 18th as they will travel to face Haverford in Centennial Conference action at 4:00 p.m.
