SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team fell behind early and were unable to overcome the deficit eventually falling 18-2 to Swarthmore College on Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Bear fell to 13-20 overall and sit at 5-6 in Centennial Conference action, meanwhile the Garnet improved to 17-14 on the season and 6-5 in conference play.
The Garnet opened with four runs in the opening frame behind three extra base hits to take an early 4-0 lead. Swarthmore opened with a double and a triple before a two-run homerun increased their lead to four before the Bears recorded a strikeout and fly out to end the frame. In the second inning, sophomore

Will Kelley opened the frame with singles, before a double from sophomore
Jordan Williams scored both runners to cut the deficit to two.
Swarthmore increased their lead to five in the bottom half of the frame as a three-run homerun from Aidan Sullivan made the score 7-2. In the third, the Garnet capitalized on a Bears defensive error allowing two runners to cross the plate and increase their lead to nine. On the mound, first-year
Max Shilstone retired the next three batters via a strikeout, and two flyouts.
Swarthmore would go on to score a at least one run per inning over the final five innings to earn the 18-2 victory. The Garnet scored multiple runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings and capitalized off a total of four errors for Ursinus.

Ben Cuccolo, Ricther, and Kelley each collected base hits, while Williams finished with two RBIs. For the Garnet, Matteo Sollecito (3-2) earned the victory on the mound pitching five innings while allowing four hits, two earned runs, two walks, and one strikeout. First-year
Dan Bass was dealt the loss after pitching two innings and allowing six earned runs.
The Bears return to action on Friday as they host Swarthmore College at 3:30 p.m. and will look to even the season series.
