Women's Tennis Edged by Dickinson, 5-4

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 5-4 match to Dickinson in Centennial Conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Ursinus Tennis Courts.
 
 
With the win, the Bears fell to 9-6 overall and to 1-4 in Centennial Conference action behind their second-straight win. Meanwhile, the Red Devils improved to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
 
 
 
Dickinson pulled ahead of the Bears early as they won two of the three doubles matches to go up 2-1 into singles. Junior Claire Burke and senior Ava Compagnoni suffered an 8-5 defeat to Ariana Goitz and Alisa Steele at No. 2 doubles before the No. 1 doubles pair of sophomores Allie Armour and Shannon Stewart were downed 8-5 by Martine Fierro and Izzy Desjardins. Junior Avery Samer and first-year Bella Vassalluzzo salvaged a doubles win for the Bears at the No. 3 spot by defeating Dana Kleinman and Molly Michel 8-4.
 
 
 
Samer kept the Bears momentum going by taking down Annabelle Armendarez 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4 singles to level the match at two. Unfortunately for the Bears, Dickinson won the next three points to lock up the match win. Stewart suffered a 7-5, 6-2 setback to Steele at the No. 3 spot while Armour dropped a tough 2-6, 6-3, (6-1) match to Fierro at the No. 1 position. Burke then was edged 4-6, 6-3 (6-4) by Goitz at No. 2 singles to finish the Dickinson run. Compagnoni bested Desjardins 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot before first-year Fiona Finnerty ended the match with a thrilling 5-7, 6-4, (10-5) win over Michel at No. 6 singles.
 
 
Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, April 5th as they will travel to face Washington College at 4:00 p.m.
