READING, Pa. – The Ursinus softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Alvernia on Thursday afternoon.
GAME 1: Alvernia 5, Ursinus 1
After a scoreless two and a half innings to start the game, the Golden Wolves hit a three-run homer in the third inning to go up 3-0. Junior
Sarah DiLello got the Bears on the board in the top of the fourth as she doubled to left field to score junior
Cecilia Grahn from first base and make it a 3-1 game. Alvernia added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and preserved the win in the top of the seventh.
GAME 2: Alvernia 2, Ursinus 1
Pitching ruled the second game of the contest as Bears senior pitcher
Alexis Miller carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but the game was scoreless as well headed into the final frame. Ursinus broke the scoreless tie on a two-out infield single from sophomore
Samantha Mallen which scored DiLello from third after she tripled in the previous at-bat. However, the Golden Wolves broke up Miller's no-hitter with a double in the first at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored two runs to win the game.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 22nd as they will travel to face Dickinson in a doubleheader starting now at 10:00 a.m. due to possible inclement weather later in the day.
