Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Falls on the Road at Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – During an offensive showing on Saturday, the Ursinus College baseball team were upended by Dickinson College 12-7 in Centennial Conference play.

The second game of the doubleheader was postponed as play was suspended in the fourth inning due to rain with the Red Devils leading 4-0. The game has been scheduled to be completed on Sunday, April 30th from MacPhail Field.

The Bears jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, before Dickinson responded with three runs of their own to capture the lead. Sophomore Jakob Cantor opened the contest with a leadoff double and came around to cross the plate on a RBI single from junior Will Kelley. After a fielder's choice, sophomore Peter Balos slashed a single into right field to put runners on the corners. Senior Tom Snipes tallied an RBI on a single through the right side before the Bears rally ended on back-to-back groundouts.

Ursinus tied the game at three a piece in the second inning, as sophomore Andrew Richter scored on RBI single from classmate Jordan Williams. The Bears loaded the bases behind consecutive singles from Balos and senior Solomon Griffith, but a strikeout ended the threat.

Dickinson regained a 5-3 advantage in the third inning behind back-to-back doubles from Matt Torres and Chase Weller. The Red Devils stretched their lead to five in the fourth frame behind four hits and a two-run homerun from their leftfielder.

The Bears bounced back in the fifth inning with two runs off three hits to make their deficit 8-5. Balos led off with a double while Snipes tripled and later scored on a double from Richter. Ursinus loaded the bases behind a fielder's choice and a walk, but they would strand three runners after a groundout ended the rally.

Dickinson's left fielder Nathan Bowman extended the Red Devils advantage to 11-5 in the bottom of the inning as he connected on his second homerun of the game. Both pitching staffs kept the opposing offenses off balance throughout the middle innings, until the Bears added two late runs in the ninth inning. After Griffith and Snipes singled, sophomore Dylan Runsdorf doubled to left center to bring two runs across the plate. The Red Devils totaled 14 hits throughout the contest and held onto a 12-7 victory.

At the plate, Balos and Snipes each finished 3-of-5 on the day, while Griffith and Richter totaled two hits apiece. Ursinus stranded ten runners on base, while Newman paced the Red Devils offense with three hits and five RBIs.

The Bears will return to action on Tuesday as they host Muhlenberg College at 3:30pm from Thomas Field.
