Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Falls at No. 10 Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's lacrosse team battled but eventually fell to No. 10 Franklin & Marshall by a 23-4 score on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Bears fall to 6-6 overall and sit at 2-2 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Diplomats improved to 9-3 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in Conference play.

The Diplomats jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage behind a goal from Gillian Brennan at the 13:06-mark of the first period. Just under two minutes later, the Bears responded with a goal as sophomore Julia McCann connected on a free position opportunity to tie the game at one a piece. Franklin & Marshall bounced back tallying four straight goals over the next five minutes to jump out to a 5-1 lead. With under five minutes remaining in the quarter, the Diplomats kept the offensive momentum rolling adding four more goals to increase their lead to eight at the first period.

In the second period, despite McCann's second goal of the game at the 4:11-mark, the Diplomats continued to capitalize on their offensive opportunities outscoring Ursinus 5-1 in the period and held a 14-2 lead at halftime. First-year Renee Washart and junior Mary Michaud each tallied goals for Ursinus in the second half, but the lead proved to be too large as the Diplomats won 23-4. Franklin & Marshall scored the first four goals of the second, before Washart and Michaud scored in the closing minutes of the third stanza. The Bears were credited with six shots in the final quarter but were unable to find the back of the net as the Diplomats defense halted each opportunity.

Franklin & Marshall held a 33-21 advantage in shots while the Bears held a 15-14 edge in draw controls. The Diplomats collected 18 groundballs compared to just eight for the Bears while Franklin & Marshall converted 78.5% (11-of-14) of their clear attempts and held the Bears to a clear percentage of 66.6% (6-of-9).

The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 15th as they host Bryn Mawr College for Senior Day from Patterson Field.
