COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – A stunning rally by Swarthmore ended the Ursinus Softball teams Centennial Championship hopes on Sunday afternoon at the Snell Softball Field during the championship round of the Centennial Conference Tournament.
Needing two wins to take home the conference title, the Bears surged ahead of a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth to go up 2-0 when senior
Allyson Meakim hit a two-out two-run single with the bases loaded. Serving as the away team in game seven of the tournament since Swarthmore was unbeaten headed into the Championship round, the Bears took their lead into the bottom of the seventh looking to force a decisive eighth game. First-year
Christa Andrusiewicz recorded the first two outs before the Garnet used back-to-back singles, a double, and home run to win the game.
Sophomore
Samantha Mallen set the Centennial Conference single-season stolen base record in the top of the first with her 40th before adding her 41st a couple innings later.
The Bears will now await a possible at-large berth to the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament. The selection show will take place on Monday, May 15th.
