No. 20 Field Hockey Dominates Albright, 6-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Behind a fast start, the No. 20 Ursinus Field Hockey team downed Albright 6-0 on Saturday morning at the Eleanor Frost Snell Alumnae Field in non-conference action.

With the win, the Bears improved to 3-2 and avenged their loss to Albright last season. Meanwhile, the Lions fell to 2-3 overall.

Ursinus blitzed the Lions early with pressure and junior Mary Lauren Franz got the Bears on the board just under four minutes into the first quarter after working around her defender from the right side of the net to make it 1-0. Junior Amanda Groeling quickly added to the Bears lead just under three minutes later before sophomore Remi Lloyd tallied her first goal as a Bear in the ninth minute to extend the Ursinus lead to 3-0. The Bears continued to control play throughout the first half and limited the Lions to just three shots in the first 30 minutes with just one going on goal.

Sophomore Lauren Breisch pushed the Bears lead to 4-0 just two minutes into the second half after she was awarded a penalty stroke. Groeling notched her second of the day just two minutes later after deflecting a feed from sophomore Rachel Buono that made it 5-0 in the 34th minute. First-year Ashlyn Gatto capped the scoring for the Bears in the 38th minute when she collected a pass from the Ursinus end at midfield and beat two defenders on her way to the goal, making it 6-0.

The Bears held a sizable 18-6 advantage in total shots and a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. Ursinus also held a 7-4 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore goalkeeper Adriana Palladinetti earned the win after making two saves in the first three quarters. Junior Makayla Baessler finished off the shutout by tending the net for the final 15 minutes without facing a shot on net. Veronica Heckman suffered the loss after making three saves in 45 minutes of action. Groeling led the Bears with two goals as five different Ursinus players scored in the contest.

Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, September 20th as they will travel to face No. 13 TCNJ at 4:00 p.m.
