GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Basketball team dropped a 59-50 contest to Gettysburg on the road Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.
Sophomore
Nick Nocito led the Bears with a team-high 17 points and grabbed three rebounds along with two assists. Senior
Trevor Wall tallied 11 points, seven rebounds, and two assists while junior
Cole Grubbs recorded six blocks.
Gettysburg scored the first 10 points of the game which set an unsettling tone for the rest of the game for the Bears. Ursinus did not score until the 15:16-mark and did not score a field goal until
Nick Nocito hit a three-pointer at the 12:34-mark. Gettysburg reeled off another 10 straight points to go up 20-6 at the 7:21-mark, but the Bears rallied with a 13-2 run to get within three points at 22-19 with 2:43 left in the first half. The Bullets outscored the Bears 7-3 down the stretch of the first half to go into the locker rooms up 29-22.
Ursinus finally broke a 3:15 scoreless stretch between both squads to start the second half when Nocito made a layup, but the Bears ultimately could not find a consistent stretch of made baskets to pull in front of Gettysburg. Nocito made a pair of three-pointers to get the Bears within two points at 46-44 with 5:55 left in regulation before first-year
Matthew Field made it 48-46 a minute later. Ursinus kept the Bullets without a field goal for a stretch of 4:51, but Gettysburg went 9-of-11 from the free throw line in the final four minutes. Ursinus got within three points twice in the final three minutes before Gettysburg closed the game out.
The Bears struggled from the field by shooting just 29.5 percent (18-of-61) from the field and 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from three-point range. Ursinus went 8-of-10 (80%) from the free throw line and held a slight 43-41 rebounding advantage. Meanwhile the Bullets shot just 33.9 percent (20-of-59) from the field and 4-of-17 (23.5%) from deep. Gettysburg went 15-of-19 (78.9%) from the free throw line and forced 22 Ursinus turnovers.
Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, January 17th as they will host Muhlenberg at 7:30 p.m.
