COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Gymnastics team opened their 2024 campaign by hosting a quad meet with three fellow NCGA East opponents on Sunday afternoon at Helfferich Hall.
The Bears competed against Cortland, Springfield, and Rhode Island College. Ursinus finished fourth among the four teams in the quad meet with a score of 182.425. The Bears rounded out their total with scores of 46.850 on the vault, 46.575 on the balance beam, 45.700 on the floor exercise, and 43.300 on the uneven bars. Rhode Island won the meet with a score of 187.100 followed by Springfield with a 185.500, and Cortland with a 184.050 team score.
Ursinus paced the four teams on the vault with the highest team score of 46.850 and was led by an impressive collegiate debut by first-year
Erin Roe. Roe finished second in the individual standings with a 9.6 and was followed by senior
Ashley Cromer in fifth with a 9.45. First-year
Bella Leo recorded a 9.3 in her collegiate debut and tied for ninth overall while senior
Carly Troilo along with junior
Megan Matteucci each tallied a 9.250.
The Bears had a balanced effort on the beam with their team score of 46.575 that was second to just Rhode Island College. Roe once again starred for the Bears as she led the team with a 9.5 to tie for seventh overall. Leo finished ninth with a 9.475 and was followed by classmate
Lucy Warburton in her debut at a 9.450. Another first-year
Arianna Ellis recorded a 9.125 in her collegiate debut on the beam.
However, Ellis made her biggest impact on the floor with an impressive 9.6 to lead the Bears and tie for sixth overall in the individual standings. Troilo recorded a 9.475 to finish second among Ursinus gymnasts on the floor and rounded out the overall top 10. Warburton tallied a 9.075 in her collegiate floor debut and finished third among Bear gymnasts.
On the bars, sophomore
Brianna Duffy had a strong routine and led the Bears with a 9.425 that was good for fourth overall. Duffy blitzed her previous career best score by nearly .2 and junior
Megan Matteucci tied for sixth overall with a 9.3. Junior
Adison Tanguay finished ninth overall and third among Bear gymnasts on the bars with a 9.2
Ursinus returns to action on Sunday, January 21st as they will travel to Ithaca for a dual meet starting at 11:00 a.m.
