COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The No. 17 Ursinus Field Hockey team cruised to a 9-0 win over McDaniel at the Snell Alumnae Field on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.
With the win, the Bears improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Green Terror fell to 2-8 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Ursinus hit the ground running just three minutes into the contest as sophomore
Kirsten Johnson knocked in the ball for a goal after a mad scramble in front of the Green Terror cage. Junior
Lauren Breisch quickly extended the Bears lead to 2-0 less than a minute later with a penalty stroke goal. Sophomore
Marie Brainard capped the Bears scoring in the first quarter with a rip from the top left circle to make it 3-0. Senior
Mary Lauren Franz extended the Bears lead to 4-0 following a second chance opportunity just 36 seconds into the second quarter. Johnson added her second goal of the game in the 20th minute after redirecting a shot from junior
Lauren Sieczkowski while first-year
Lauren Habakus tallied her first collegiate goal just two minutes later to make it 6-0.
Franz tipped in her second goal of the game just 56 seconds into the second half after a pass in front from Habakus to bring the score to 7-0. With the Bears still in complete control, sophomore
Rachel Fosbenner scored her first collegiate goal in the 51st minute and junior
Gigi Testa wrapped up the Bears big day with a second chance goal in the final minute of the game. The nine goals were the most in a single game for Ursinus since netting nine against Bryn Mawr in 2016.
The Bears held a 23-2 shot advantage for the game and a 17-0 edge in shots on goal. Ursinus held a sizable 16-3 margin in penalty corners as well. Junior goalkeepers
Adriana Palladinetti and
Susie Miller split 30 minutes in the net for Ursinus. Habakus, Franz, and Johnson all tallied four points in the win.
Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, October 9th as they will travel to face Swarthmore at 7:00 p.m. in Centennial Conference action.
