COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College Women's Basketball team earned a decisive 75-40 win over Alvernia in their home opener on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Helfferich Hall.
With the win, the Bears improve to 2-1 overall on the season while the Golden Wolves fell to 0-2.

Chinwe Irondi led the Bears with her second straight double-double behind 20 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore
Colleen Blackman continued her torrid stretch with 18 points behind making six three-pointers which comes one game after making five triples. Junior
Madison Smith was the third Bear in double-figures with 15 points and five rebounds while classmate
Ava Possenti led the team with four steals.
Alvernia scored the first two points of the game before the Bears used a 10-2 run to take control early at 10-4 with 4:21 left in the first quarter. Ursinus capped its run with the final seven points and went up 17-4 after one, holding the Golden Wolves without a point for the final 7:22 of the opening quarter. Ursinus scored the first five points of the second quarter and went up 22-4 before Alvernia ended a scoreless stretch of 14:22. The Bears continued to guide the pace of the game with strong defense and timely baskets and built their lead by as many as 23 points. Blackman capped the quarter with another three-pointer and Ursinus took a 37-14 lead into the half.
The Bears scored the first five points of the second half to go up 42-14 just a minute into the third. Ursinus did not let its lead drop under 20 points during the remainder of the quarter and went on an 11-2 run to close out the third that made it 61-29. The Bears went up by as many as 36 points in the fourth quarter and finished the game out with the final score of 75-40.
Ursinus went 37.3 percent (28-of-75) from the field and 29.6 percent (8-of-27) from three-point range. The Bears shot a near perfect 84.6 (11-of-13) from the free throw line and held a decisive 51-32 rebounding advantage which led to a 17-5 edge in second chance points. Meanwhile, the Golden Wolves shot just 28.3 percent from the field (13-of-46) and 4-of-20 (20.0%) from three-point range. Alvernia went 10-of-17 (58.8%) from the free throw line and had 25 turnovers that led to 26 Bears points.
Olivia Burke led Alvernia with 12 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, November 16th as they will host Neumann at 1:00 p.m.
