BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Basketball team never trailed as they earned a dominant 92-58 win over Rosemont on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
With the win, the Bears improved to 3-1 overall with a pair of wins this week. Meanwhile, the Ravens fell to 0-3 overall.
The Bears had four starters finish in double-figures and sophomore
Luke Nieman led the way with a career-high 22 points behind going 8-of-13 from the field and 6-of-11 from three-point range. Senior
Trevor Wall added an efficient 17 points behind going 5-of-8 shooting while adding five assists, three blocks, and two steals while junior
Mohamed Toure finished with 12 points plus four rebounds. Junior
Nick Nocito rounded out the scorers with his first collegiate double-double of 11 points and career-high 11 rebounds while adding six assists.
Nieman scored the Bears first five points of the game to put them up 5-0 early and Ursinus quickly built its first double-digit lead at 16-6 with 13:41 left in the first quarter. The Bears continued to stay strong from the field early and stretched its lead to 23-8 at the 10:07-mark. Ursinus took its largest lead of the first half at 34-15 with 5:27 remaining after using a 9-2 run and did not let its lead fall below 14 points. Ursinus closed the first half by scoring the final four points to lead 40-22.
The Bears came out scorching hot in the second half by going 4-of-4 from three-point range to push its advantage to 52-27 at the 17:00-mark. The Ravens got within 19 points at 54-35 with 15:02 left in regulation before Ursinus used an 11-2 run to go back up 65-37 at the 12:00-mark. A three-pointer from Nocito gave the Bears their first 30-point lead of the game at 76-46 with 6:50 remaining in the second half and Ursinus kept its lead above 30 points following a second Nocito three just under a minute later. The Bears extended its lead out to as many as 35 points and completed the win at 92-58.
Ursinus shot an even 50 percent from the field (32-of-64) and 44.1 percent (15-of-34) from three-point range. The Bears went 13-of-17 (76.5%) from the free throw line and held a decisive 48-33 rebounding advantage that led to a 19-8 edge in second chance points. Meanwhile, the Ravens shot 40 percent (24-of-60) from the field and just 1-of-15 (6.7%) from three-point range. Rosemont shot 40.9% (9-of-22) from the free throw line in the loss.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, November 23rd as they will host TCNJ at 1:00 p.m.
