Volleyball Sweeps Past Bryn Mawr in Regular Season Finale

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College Women's Volleyball team completed its regular season with a straight set sweep of Bryn Mawr (25-19, 25-13, 25-13) on Wednesday night at Helfferich Hall in Centennial Conference action.
 
 
With the win, the Bears improved to 14-10 and 5-5 in Centennial Conference play which is the most wins in Centennial action since the 2001 season. With Haverford's sweep of Muhlenberg tonight, the Bears need a loss by Muhlenberg on Saturday to clinch a Centennial Conference Tournament berth. Meanwhile, the Owls fell to 4-18 overall and 0-9 in Centennial action.
 
 
Junior Reena Robinson led all players with 11 kills and a strong .478 hitting percentage. Senior Caroline Sherman added 10 kills, four digs, and three aces for her seventh straight double-digit kill performance. Junior Erin Dychdala paced the offense with 14 assists and a game-high 11 digs while senior Rachel Bernard posted 11 assists, eight digs, plus two kills. Senior Emma Illovsky finished with 10 digs and five assists as well.
 
 
Ursinus jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in the first set and ran off six straight points while leading 6-5 to go up 12-5 and force a Bryn Mawr timeout. The Owls won five of the next six points to get within three points at 13-10 to only be answered by Ursinus taking six of the next eight points to give them a 19-12 lead. The Bears built their lead to as many as eight points on two occasions later in the first set and Robinson ended it with a kill.
 
 
The Bears fell behind 5-2 early in the second set but took its first lead behind five straight points when trailing 7-5 to go up 10-7. Bryn Mawr won three straight points to tie the set at 10 before the Bears won nine of the next 11 points to take control of the set at 19-12. Following a point from the Owls, Ursinus closed out the set with six straight points.
 
 
Ursinus hit the ground running in the third set as they jumped out to an 8-2 lead to force an early timeout from the Owls. Bryn Mawr would get no closer than four points the rest of the way after the Bears won nine straight points to take a 20-7 advantage. Ursinus won four straight points to get to match point at 24-10 and a service error concluded the match after three straight points from the Owls. The Bears hit .265 as a team for the match and tallied 14 service aces.
