BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Ursinus Gymanstics team put on a dazzling display on Sunday afternoon in a Tri-Meet against a pair of NCGA East Opponents at Brockport.
Facing the host Golden Eagles and Springfield, the Bears finished second with a team score of 191.350 which was the highest since earning a 191.500 at West Chester back in March of 2017. Ursinus nearly took out two event team records in the process as they tallied a 47.425 on the vault, 46.925 on the bars, 48.475 on the beam, and 48.525 on the floor. Brockport won the meet with a team score of 193.700 and Springfield came in third with a 189.625.
Opening on the beam, the Bears put on one of its best showings in program history for the event as a team as they came .100 off matching the beam school record set at the aforementioned West Chester dual meet in March 2017. Five of the six gymnasts competing recorded at least a 9.675 and senior
Ashley Cromer led the team with a career best score of 9.725. A pair of first-years in
Bella Leo and
Erin Roe each recorded 9.7's while junior
Madison Zimmerman and sophomore
Adrienne Roth matched each other with 9.675.
Ursinus took its second run at a team record on the floor with their total of 48.525 coming just .75 off the school record of 48.600 set at Temple in February 2015. Junior
Megan Matteucci was outstanding to lead the Bears with a personal best of 9.825 and came within .50 of the school record held by Kristina Steffenhagen. Matteucci was third overall while senior
Carly Troilo blitzed her old personal best with a 9.8 to finish fourth overall. First-year
Arianna Ellis kept the personal best trend setting going with a 9.725 and Leo followed suit with a 9.650. Sophomore
Sidney Schreiber posted a 9.525 to be the fifth Bear over a 9.5 for the floor.
One week after setting the school record on the vault, Roe paced the Bears again with a 9.650 to tie for third overall. Junior
Erin Stubbs was second on the Bears with a 9.575 while Matteucci and Schreiber each posted scores of 9.425. Troilo posted a score of 9.350 and Cromer rounded out the Bears with a tally of 9.3.
The Bears wrapped up the day on the bars and were highlighted by a breakout showing by sophomore
Kylie Ruggiero. Competing for a score in the first time of her collegiate career, Ruggiero led the Bears with a 9.575 and finished fourth overall. Sophomore
Brianna Duffy was fifth overall and second on the Bears behind matching her career best score of 9.475. Leo was next with a 9.325, Roe completed her day with a 9.3, and
Lauren Coleman recorded a 9.275 to complete the three first-years finishing in a row.
Ursinus will return to action on Saturday, March 2nd as they will travel to Rutgers for a quad meet alongside the Scarlet Knights, Cornell, and West Chester at 2:00 p.m.
