COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – No. 4 ranked Salisbury took both ends of a non-conference baseball doubleheader against Ursinus on Saturday afternoon. The Seagulls won the opener, 23-10, and took game two, 12-3 to earn their eighth consecutive victory.
No. 4 Salisbury 23, Ursinus 10 (Game 1)
The Seagulls totaled 20 hits in the contest while the Bears also reached double-digit hits tallying 11 during the nine-inning contest. The Bears trailed by a single run entering the third inning, before a three-run fifth frame and an eight run sixth inning lifted the Seagulls past Ursinus.
During the opening frame, the first three batters reached base with two runs scoring on an RBI double before the Bears escaped the frame trailing 3-0. In the bottom of the second frame, Ursinus responded with two runs of their own to bring the score to 3-2. Junior
Jude Gilhool led off the frame with a single, while classmate
Peter Balos added a single to advance Gilhool into scoring position. Junior
Andrew Richter brought the Bears first run across the plate on an RBI ground out, while a Seagull's error allowed the second run to score.
Salisbury quickly answered with two runs in the third and fourth frames to increase their lead to 7-2. Gilhool tallied his second hit of the contest in the bottom of the fourth inning, but was stranded in scoring position as back-to-back flyouts ended the frame. Salisbury carried the momentum over the next two innings scoring a combined 10 runs to increase their lead to 16. During their eight-run sixth inning, the Seagulls capitalized from two Bears defensive errors while also recording six hits in the frame.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Richter, and first-year
Barritt Ross each collected RBIs to bring the Bears deficit to 18-5. After back-to-back walks to open the frame, Richter tallied a two-out double to right center to plate two Ursinus runs. After a Seagulls pitching change, Ross scored Richter from second via a single through the right side before a lineout ended the threat. Salisbury added three runs in the seventh and plated two more runs in the eighth to increase their lead to 23-5.
The Bears offense added five runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning off five base hits to make the score 23-10 with one inning remaining. Sophomore
Kyle Rosenfeld opened the frame by reaching base via an error and advanced to second off Gilhool's third hit of the game. After a fielders' choice scored the first run, junior

Gabriel Alexander, and Ross each tallied singles to plate the next two runs. First-year
Brandon Sullivan followed up with an RBI double, while a groundout from sophomore
Tyler Dinan plated the Bears final run of the frame. Each offense was held off the board in the frame resulting in the 23-10 victory for Salisbury.
No. 4 Salisbury 12, Ursinus 3 (Game Two)
The nightcap was tied 3-3 entering the seventh inning, before Salisbury added nine runs over the final three innings to collect a 12-3 decision. Junior lefty
David Morgan got the start on the mound for the Bears and opened the contest by stranding two runners in scoring position during the Seagulls first chance at the plate. Ursinus responded by scoring the opening tally in their first chance at the plate as Rosenfeld led off the inning with a one-out double. Gilhool advanced Rosenfeld to third as he recorded an infield single, while a wild pitch allowed the first run to cross the plate.
In the second inning, Salisbury answered behind a one-out double plated two runners to regain a 2-1 advantage. With two runners on base, Morgan settled down by recording back-to-back punchouts to escape the jam. Salisbury added a run in the third inning as a sacrifice fly increased their lead to 3-1.
Ursinus quickly answered by tying the contest at three apiece after scoring a run during their chance at the plate in the third and fourth inning. After senior
Will Kelley reached base on a walk and advanced to second on a balk, Rosenfeld laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Kelley to third base. With Kelley on third, junior
Jakob Cantor recorded an RBI groundout to cut the Bears deficit to one. The Bears loaded the bases as Gilhool, Cuccolo, and Richter each tallied base hits. Unfortunately, Ursinus stranded the bases juiced as a pickoff moved ended the Bears threat to break the score open. In the fourth inning with a runner on second base, Kelley came through with an RBI single into right field to tie the contest at three apiece.
The score remained tied through the middle innings until Salisbury added three runs in the seventh and six runs in the eighth inning en route to the 12-3 victory. At the plate, Gilhool paced the Bears lineup totaling six hits on the day behind an impressive 4-of-6 performance in game one. On the mound, Morgan pitched well throughout his outing finishing with seven innings pitched, allowing 10 hits, and tying a season high with five strikeouts.

th as they travel to Chester, Pennsylvania for a non-conference matchup against Widener University at 3:30 p.m.
