COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Tennis team dominated its way to an 8-1 win over Marymount on Saturday afternoon at the Ursinus Tennis courts in non-conference action.
With the win, the Bears improved to 7-2 overall and have won five of its seven matches this spring. Meanwhile the Saints fell to 3-2 overall.
Ursinus swept all three doubles matches to gain a big leg up into singles play. Senior
Claire Burke and
Bella Vassalluzzo cruised past Shannon King and Sofi Plotkin 8-1 at No. 2 doubles before the first-year duo of
Caroline Daly and
Morgan Coupe downed Avery DeFazio and Angelica Dalton, 8-5, at the No. 3 spot. Junior
Allie Armour and senior
Avery Samer defeated Fabienne Fritz and Sofia Lucero 8-5 at the No. 1 spot to complete the sweep.
Burke won in straight sets over King 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Daly earned the match-clinching point with a 6-1, 6-4 win over DeFazio at the No. 4 spot. Samer dropped a 2-6, 3-6 decision to Lucero at No. 3 singles before Armour won 6-4, 6-4 over Fritz at the No. 1 position. Sophomore
Fiona Finnerty earned a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Ariane Kombou at the No. 6 spot and classmate
Kate Rubinkam took down Dalton 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 5 position.

Avery Samer are all playing terrific tennis and really are setting a great example for the rest of the team. We are winning matches right now that in years past we would have lost. It is really impressive and I can't wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds."
Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, March 20th as they will travel to face York at 4:00 p.m.
