Women's Tennis Earns 7-2 Wins over St. John Fisher and King's

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Ursinus Women's Tennis team earned a pair of wins on Tuesday down at the Oak Street Park Tennis Courts in Florida.
 
 
The Bears swept both St. John Fisher and King's both by scores of 7-2 to improve their record to 4-1 overall and 2-1 down on the spring break trip.
 
 
Ursinus 7, St. John Fisher 2
 
Ursinus took two of the three doubles matches to gain an early 2-1 lead. Junior Allie Armour and senior Avery Samer bested the doubles duo of Kathryn Strait and Maddy Langley at the No. 1 spot by a total of 8-2. Senior Claire Burke and sophomore Bella Vassalluzzo followed with an 8-4 triumph over Lilly Renzi and Madison Galvin at No. 2 doubles before sophomore Kate Rubinkam and first-year Julia Nitz dropped a tough 7-8 (2-4) match at No. 3 doubles to Eliana Kelly and Lily Miller. Sophomore Fiona Finnerty suffered a 1-6, 1-6 setback to Miller at No. 4 singles that leveled the match at two before the Bears won the next five singles matches to close out the match. Sophomore Grace Maccarelli downed Natalie Eisenson 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot and first-year Caroline Daly won 6-3, 6-2 over Renzi at the No. 3 spot. Armour delivered the decisive point with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Strait at the No. 1 spot and Samer followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Langley at No. 2 singles. First-year Morgan Coupe downed Anna Exford at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-3 to close out the match.
 
 
Ursinus 7, King's 2  
 
The Bears went up 2-1 after doubles play again much like the earlier match. Coupe and Daly won an 8-2 match at No. 2 doubles over Jackie Costello and Carlee Dellose while Samer and Burke were edged 8-5 at the No. 1 spot by Ashley Kenia and Hailey D'Amato. Rubinkam and Nitz won the third doubles match by forfeit.  Ursinus won five of their singles matches once again as Armour defeated Kenia 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Rubinkam downed Costello 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Finnerty defeated Dellose 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot. Vassalluzzo triumphed over Emma Rooney 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 5 position while Nitz got a forfeit win at the No. 6 spot. Daly suffered a 3-6, 3-6 loss to D'Amato at No. 2 singles.
 
 
 
The Bears will be back in action on Thursday, March 7th as they will take on Concordia-Minnesota at 7:30 a.m. before facing Baldwin Wallace at 6:00 p.m.
