Women's Tennis Sweeps Past Concordia Moorhead and Baldwin Wallace

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Ursinus Women's Tennis team picked up a pair of wins on Thursday as they defeated Concordia Moorhead and Baldwin Wallace at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Campus.
 
 
The Bears got revenge on the Cobbers from last season with a 6-3 win before taking down the Yellow Jackets 7-2 in the evening session. With the win the Bears improved to 6-1 overall behind their fourth straight win.  
 
Ursinus 6, Concordia Moorhead 3
 
The Cobbers took two of the three doubles matched to take a 2-1 lead into singles action. The first-year No. 3 doubles duo of Caroline Daly and Morgan Coupe suffered an 8-3 setback to Annalise Skrade and Ava Lowman before senior Claire Burke and sophomore Bella Vassalluzzo were defeated by the same total at No. 2 doubles by Mary Skorich and Erin Borchard. Junior Allie Armour and senior Avery Samer got the Bears on the board by edging Anna Hacker and Raquel Egge 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
 
 
Daly was bested by Borchard at No. 4 singles 0-6, 1-6 to put the Cobbers up 3-1 before Ursinus won the last five singles matches to earn the win. Burke downed Skorich 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and sophomore Kate Rubinkam leveled the score with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Lizzie Allan 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot. Armour won a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Egge at the No. 1 singles spot and Samer won a 6-0, 4-6, 10-4 thriller over Hacker at the No. 3 position to seal the match. Sophomore Fiona Finnerty won a highly-contested 4-6, 6-1, 10-4 match over Lowman at No. 6 singles to close things out.
 
Ursinus 7, Baldwin Wallace 2

This time, Ursinus gained the upper hand after doubles play by winning two of the three matches. Daly and first-year Julia Nitz won 8-3 over Olivia Koutouras and Aniya Qualls at the No. 3 doubles spot while the duo of Burke and Vassalluzzo dropped an 8-4 decision to Collen Anderson and Emma Trost at No. 2 doubles. Armour and Samer earned an 8-6 win at the No. 1 position over Gabriela Heideman and Kierstyn Yates.
 
 
The Bears pulled away from the Yellow Jacket by taking all but one singles match. Armour completed a perfect 4-0 day between singles and doubles by winning 6-0, 6-4 over Heideman at No. 1 singles while Burke took down Yates 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. Daly won 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) over Koutouras at the No. 4 position and Rubinkam collected her second No. 5 singles win of the day over Trost by a total of 1-6, 6-1, 10-7. Finnerty outlasted Gillian Brown 2-6, 6-0, 12-10 at the No. 6 spot and Samer suffered the lone singles loss for the Bears in the match with a 3-6, 3-6 setback to Anderson at No. 3 singles.
 
 
The Bears return to action tomorrow, March 8th as they will finish up their Florida trip against College of St. Benedict at the USTA National Campus starting at 11:00 a.m.
