Softball Drops Two to Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Ursinus Softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Swarthmore in Centennial Conference action on Tuesday afternoon. The Garnet won 4-0 in game one before taking game two 8-1.

Swarthmore did all its damage in game one in the bottom of the first with four runs three hits. Five of the first six batters reached to bring in the runs. Ursinus got a pair of singles to open the top of the second and eventually loaded the bases with two outs before a fly out ended the threat. The Bears next threat to chip into the Garnet lead came in the top of the fourth when they put runners on first and second with two outs. A force out at third stopped the potential threat. Sophomore Kayla Carr went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Bears in game one.

In game two, the Garnet struck first again in the top of the first with a run to take the initial lead. Swarthmore scored one run in the first three innings before adding three more in the bottom of the fourth to go up 6-0. Senior Madison Wilson led the top of the fifth off with a walk and advanced to third behind a wild pitch plus passed ball. Sophomore Megan Mills brought Wilson in with a ground out for the Bears lone run of the game. Swarthmore added runs in the fifth and sixth to close out the game.

The Bears return to action on Thursday, April 19th as they will host Franklin & Marshall in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
