COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Baseball team wrapped up its 2024 season by dropping a pair of games to McDaniel on Saturday afternoon in their final Centennial Conference doubleheader of the season.
Junior
Peter Balos got the Bears on the board in the bottom of the second inning when he hit a solo home run to the left field corner to make it 1-0. Senior pitcher
Matt Tuley in his final start for the Bears carried a no-hitter into the top of the seventh inning until a solo home run to left field ended the no-hitter and tied the game. McDaniel pushed across another run in the seventh plus another in the eighth off sacrifice flies to go up 3-1. Junior
Andrew Richter cut the Green Terror lead to 3-2 with a single in the bottom of the eighth. However, the Bears stranded a runner on second in each of the last two innings that preserved the win for the Green Terror. Tuley, despite the loss, was brilliant for the Bears allowing just two earned runs off two hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
In game two, the Green Terror opened the scoring with a run off a sacrifice fly in the top of the second. Junior catcher
Dylan Runsdorf led the third inning with a double and came around to score to tie the game at one following a single from first-year
Brandon Sullivan. Richter roped a two-out double to left field to put the Bears in front at 2-1. McDaniel tied the game right back in the top of the fourth, but the Bears surged back ahead in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs to go up 4-2. After Runsdorf hit another double to start, junior
Jakob Cantor singled him in two batters later for the initial lead. Balos followed with a single up the middle on two outs to extend the lead, which was also the 100th hit of his career. Unfortunately for the Bears, the Green Terror scored two runs in each of the last four innings to pull away for the win.
Sullivan led the Bears in game two by going 3-for-5 with an RBI plus run scored while Runsdorf went 2-for-4 while scoring two runs. Balos combined for three hits in the doubleheader.
