GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Ursinus softball team was swept by Gettysburg in its season finale on Saturday afternoon in a Centennial Conference doubleheader. The Bullets won 9-1 in six innings for game one before taking game two 4-2.
Ursinus loaded the bases with one out in the top of the first but came away with no runs after a strikeout and groundout. Gettysburg took the initial 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after getting a single with a runner on second and two outs. The Bears tied the game in the top of the fourth when first-year
Madyson Hickman poked a single up the middle to score junior
Rachel Hartman from second, who led the inning off with a double. However, the Bullets delivered the decisive blow in the bottom of the sixth with eight runs on five hits to enact the run rule and end the game.
In game two, the Bullets struck first again with two runs off a double in the bottom of the first to go up 2-0. Gettysburg added two more runs in the bottom of the second from a two-out single and took a 4-0 advantage. The Bears rallied for two runs in the top of the third when senior
Sara Sullivan roped a two-out triple to right field that made it 4-2. Unfortunately for the Bears, Sullivan would be the last batter to reach base in the game as Gettysburg pitching retired the final 13 batters in a row to preserve the win.
Sullivan went 2-for-3 in game two with two RBI's to lead the Bears and Hartman went 2-for-3 with a run scored in game one. After throwing five innings in game one, sophomore pitcher
Christa Andrusiewicz pitched 4.1 shutout innings in relief during game two as she allowed just two hits plus one walk.
