COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Senior forward
Luke Luehrs scored a career-high four goals lifting the Ursinus College men's soccer team to a 7-0 victory over Penn State Berks on Sunday afternoon from Patterson Field.
All four of Luehrs' goals came in the first half as he became the first Bear to score four goals in a contest since Ryan Butler against Gwynedd Mercy in 2012. First-year
Jason Lotkowski and junior
Marko Balic each collected their first collegiate goals in the contest.
The Bears quickly scored the opening two goals of the contest as Luehrs scored during the 6th and 9th minute to give Ursinus an early advantage. After a goalie kick, Ursinus intercepted a pass to setup a counterattack when senior
Ben Weir sent a pass into the box finding Luehrs wide open for the scoring opportunity. Just three minutes later, junior
Enver Desic and sophomore
Declan Curran set up Luehrs for his second scoring chance as a two-on-one opportunity arose to give Ursinus a two-goal advantage. In the 19th minute, Desic earned his second assist as he setup Luehrs for a one timer shot and collected a first half for hat trick.
With under 15 minutes remaining in the first half, Luehrs netted his fourth score as he showcased a beautiful shot to stretch the Bears lead to four. Luehrs created some space by displaying impressive footwork before sending a curling shot towards the far post for the score. Ursinus added their fifth score of the first half as first-year
Ben Kiedrowski sent a cross through the box finding Lotkowski for the scoring opportunity. The Bears added two more scores in the second half and cruised to a 7-0 shutout victory over the Nittany Lions.
Ursinus controlled the pace throughout the contest out shooting the Nittany Lions 28-5, while holding a 5-1 edge in corner kick opportunities. Senior netminder
Zach Matik recorded the victory in goal behind collecting one save over 54:36 of action. Sophomore goalie
Josiah Moore also recorded one save over the final 35 minutes of play and combined for the Bears' second consecutive shutout of the season.
The Bears return to action on Wednesday, September 4th as they travel to Immaculata University for a non-conference matchup starting at 7 p.m.
